Founded in 2005, GAIA is an RTD performing SME working with the academia, research centers, public bodies, the civil sector and other SMEs. It is also one of the founding members (2011) of MICAMO srl, a spin-off of the University of Genoa dealing with environmental microbiology, molecular microbiology and biochemistry.

GAIA is experienced in project coordination and management, dissemination and outreach, laboratory and field research, statistical analysis of data, tutoring and training activities. In its double-role both as an RTD performer and as an advisor for coordination and management, the company is/has been engaged in cooperative projects involving Mediterranean Third Countries and Marine Protected Areas, 6FP and 7FP actions and bilateral projects.

Topics of interest include marine ecology, marine zoology, aquaculture, marine biotechnology, sustainable exploitation of marine resources, science and society, ecological economics. GAIA's staff is skilled in field and laboratory practices related to the above-mentioned research areas, hands-on science, science popularisation, u/w activities including filming, and organisation of events.
